At its recent annual meeting, the New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb) elected Victoria Hutt as its new Chair. She succeeds Alain Boisvert, who was elected in late November of 2020 and served in this role to the end of his second mandate on the board.
Victoria Hutt is a visual artist, designer and writer living in Florenceville-Bristol, NB. Project manager with the Canadian Crafts Federation—a national service organization championing Canadian craft—Victoria is a NSCAD design graduate and former executive director of the Andrew and Laura McCain Art Gallery. She has extensive experience in arts administration, not-for-profit management, community development, and is very involved in wellness and food security initiatives in her community.
“The past few years have focused attention on the essential role of the cultural sector and creative activity in an unprecedented way, proving the immense value of the arts not only in the economic sphere, but as a core need for vibrant, social, healthy communities and individuals. I’m especially excited to serve in this role as we collectively vision forward once again, fostering increased opportunities for the creation of art and advancing the creative practice of professional artists in our province. With our fantastic artsnb team currently undertaking the process of building our next 3-year strategic plan, we are committed to promoting equity for all New Brunswick artists, continued and growing collaboration and partnership with cultural stakeholders, and making meaningful, lasting improvements to the status of the New Brunswick artist,” says the new Chair.
An independent and autonomous public funding agency, the New Brunswick Arts Board is governed by a Board of nine voting members. artsnb’s mission is to support the cultural diversity of New Brunswick by fostering excellence in the arts, facilitating artistic creation by the province’s professional and emerging artists, and contributing to the appreciation and understanding of the arts.
