Single: Driftwood People Sneak in a Deeper Meaning on ‘Always’

Driftwood People are giving us a further taste of the direction they’re taking as band with their latest single, “Always.” They’ve kicked out the stops on their pop machine and cranked up the production, filling the track infectious beats and ‘just so’ vocals that have them primed as Top 40 material.

Driftwood People that for their new single draws they’ve been inspiration from bands likes Said The Whale and Halfmoon Run, with Braden Lam naturally fitting into his role as songwriter first, and alt pop sensation second. “Always” blends the two seamlessly, with some emotive little nuggets hidden between the synths and a big danceable chorus.

While the song sounds like a lyrical epistle between two deeply intimate and romantic individuals, with lines likes “Lord, I want to feel you always,” and “You say you’re everywhere, but I don’t know anywhere you’ve been,” Lam throws us a curve ball by taking a much more literal and religious approach. Despite that party beat, Lam is not expressing a desperate need to be with a lover, but addressing his faith.

“The song is about a deep longing to feel like you’re never alone. I’ve always believed in God, but had come to a point in life where my faith was really struggling with the lack of reciprocation in a seemingly one-sided relationship” says Lam. “The urgency of the lyrics allow listeners to interpret the song how it’s most relevant to their lives and the relationships they hold close.”

“Always” and the previously released “Ruby” will both appear on the upcoming yet-to-be-titled album from Driftwood People. The album is expected to be released in 2020.
