Single: Josh Arran Gushes over Girlfriend on ‘Angel’

Joshua Arran of Prince Edward Island’s The Noisy Crows might be a little late with his Christmas gift, but it wasn’t written for you, anyway. Appropriately veering off for a solo production with “Angel,” Arran’s new song was recorded as a Christmas present for his girlfriend.

If you were good last year, you can have a listen to it. If you were bad last year, you can also have a listen to it. These Spotify spins don’t pay much attention.

Seemingly moulded from the City and Colour school of love songs, Arran’s “Angel” is built simply around vocals, a guitar, and a dizzying cocktail of hormones. Arran explains that he may have experienced some awkwardness in coming to terms with his newfound romance.

She used to get a little weirded out when she would look over to me and find me staring at her. The lyrics ‘catch myself staring, more often than now and then’ in the chorus are almost an understatement. Those are lyrics are the ones that I wrote for myself hoping that if I got them on paper I would understand it a bit better and maybe stop freaking her out so often,” laughs Arran. “Especially when we first got together. Every time I looked at her I would get so caught up in realizing how amazing she was and how lucky I was that I would forget to stop looking, over and over. “

“I was also filled with joy that this song was so easy to write, because I don’t remember the last time I wrote a happy song; they’re not really my thing. That’s why the opening line is ‘It’s been quite some time, since I’ve written a song with hope in mind.’ I was struggling to let go of an ex for a really long time, and that all went away instantly when I met her.”

Apparently the song went over so well with Arran’s girlfriend that she requested he play it again so that she might recapture the moment with a video to enjoy again later.

That’s when I got the idea to record this song as a Christmas present for her this year,” says Arran.

“I hadn’t intended on releasing it, but I was really happy with the outcome and I want everyone to know how I feel. I asked her if she would mind and she said not at all, and here we are.”
