Premiere – Kelly McMichael Says to Ditch the Crappy Jobs and Boyfriends on ‘Out the Window’

It’s a scenario as old as time; you’re sitting in the driver’s seat of an idling car in the driveway of an all-too-familiar home. The clock reads a little after 8:30, and the coffee is just hitting you as the car begins to warm up. You think to yourself, “What if I just drove away? What if I just skipped work today, drove off, and began a new life?”

In the creative mind of St. John’s’ Kelly McMichael, the multi-talented artist not only dares to imagine such a feat but does so with a friend by her side. Indeed, in McMichael’s brand new, music video-accompanied single “Out The Window,” life-sucking jobs and mediocre boyfriends are given the boot for a fun, poppy, girls-vacation tune.

“I wanted the two friends who convince each other to “throw it out the window” to really deserve that release,” says McMichael. “They are over putting up with their mistreatment at work and not getting back what they put into their relationships.”

“It’s like, ‘we tried,’ and now they’re giving up on these soul-sucking things, moving on to a new chapter and celebrating by being a bit bad for a night.”

After her debut solo single, “Montreal,” was released to praise and popularity in both the Maritimes and Ontario, McMichael has proven her talent as a solo artist once again. “Out the Window” oozes with a light-hearted spunk and relaxed confidence, with McMichael’s musical pillars, her voice, guitars, and synths, coming together for a fun, feel-good jive.

Video-wise, McMichael embraces the old-school style of her synth compositions and went for a grainy aesthetic on top of a back-and-forth between our protagonist stuck in a rut, and loving life. If she’s not brooding in front of a dreary-looking mirror or window, she’s blissfully dancing around the middle of a snow-covered field, stomping out any negativity in the process.

“I hope this song has an uplifting and fun effect, and I hope it motivates people to take the leap if they are not getting what they deserve.”

“Moving on can be scary, but also so amazing.”

“Out The Window” will appear on Kelly McMichael’s upcoming album, Waves, which is being released in April 2021.
