Single: TWRP Announce New Album With a Track About Your Moms – ‘Only The Best’

Have you hugged your mom today? Have you thanked her for all the coaching she gave you to manage your first pushups and high kicks? Have you given her a high-five for teaching you empathy and perseverance? If you didn’t, TWRP just beat you to it. They’ve officially released their newest single, “Only The Best” from their upcoming album, Over The Top, and it’s going out to all the moms.

Now we know that, without exception, all of TWRP’s songs go out to all of the ladies. “Only The Best,” however, is going out to some very specific ladies. It’s going out to only the best and that means your moms because they only want the best for you too.

Frontman/synthesist/high-kicker/push-up champ Doctor Sung says, “‘Only The Best’ is a thank you to our moms and our families. It’s their support and love that allowed us to grow into the fun weirdos we are today.”

The new track is the lead single from TWRP’s new album, Over The Top, which is due out on September 25, 2020. Presumably, that’s an accurate description of the album, the song, and nearly everything the band has ever done. Full of disco rhythms and massive synthesizer solos that band is sticking with their forte. “Only The Best”, however, slides some surprising sentimentality in between the riffs.

Which isn’t to question the fact that sentimentality and synthesizers can’t live harmoniously, side by side, in a sexy jam about your mom. It happens all the time. It’s just more surprising in the context of TWRP – wholesome as they are.

Once you get past the sweltering steez of 1980s vocoder perfection there’s a heartfelt message about the burdens that mothers are required to take on to ensure that their babies don’t grow up to cowboys. And if they do grow up to be cowboys – and there’s nothing wrong with that, Waylon Jennings – they’re going to be empathetic, compassionate cowboys.

TWRP’s moms should be proud of this new single.
