Music Video: Rachel Beck Captures Strength, Beauty, and Empowerment with ‘Warrior’ – Announces New Album

ECMA-nominee and nation-wide hit-maker Rachel Beck has just popped back into charts with “Warrior,” the first single from her upcoming sophomore album. Resplendent with 80’s vibes and a strong, feminine, majesty the track practically demands a live-action She-Ra re-make.

Beck has already proven herself as a formidable songwriter and performer, and more than suited for writing an anthem in that vein. Rather than penning her own theme song, Beck is looking backward and forward to provide some heroes with a rallying cry.

“’Warrior’ is most directly inspired by my four-year-old daughter, Nora,” reflects Beck, “…imagining the kind of woman she will grow up to be. It is also influenced by badass women throughout history – the ground-breakers and the change-makers. Amelia. Greta. Rosa. Malala.”

For the song’s video, Beck, as co-director, worked with legendary Prince Edward Island filmmaker Millefiore Clarkes to capture a colourful personification of grace and strength via a company of dancers – with Beck in the role of a disco Madonna. The video also features Beck’s daughter giving her own special performance.

“It was a privilege to co-direct this video with Mille,” says Beck. “We assembled a team of local creatives and friends (80% female-identifying, in fact) and set about capturing the essence of Warrior: strength, beauty, empowerment. What makes this video extra special for me is that the inspiration behind the song, my daughter, Nora, dances during the intro sequence. It meant everything to have her there on set with me.”

Rachel Beck’s sophomore album, Stronger Than You Know, is rather ambiguously set for release sometime “later this year.” In the meantime, you can catch her via Facebook Live January 17 at 6:00pm AST, where she and her daughter Nora will discuss what they feel it means to be a warrior.
