Music Video: Kiwi Jr. Sign to Sub Pop, Release ‘Undecided Voters’ in Time for Tonight’s Debate

For many, myself included, politics is capable of delivering a greater high than any drug and a bigger rush than any sport. But when Kiwi Jr. releases a video like “Undecided Voters,” which includes a glimpse into the politics of horse racing, we might just have something more to talk about.

To the average layman, “Undecided Voters” might seem like some absurdly comical take on the dark side of politics. And it is. But within it are all the hallmarks of electoral shenanigans, cynicism, bad actors and red herrings we should be watching for over the next month.

Kiwi Jr. offers this as a statement: “We all know UNDECIDED VOTERS: democracy’s driftwood, the third planks in the flotsam that purple the pie chart, always on sight and never a part of the scene. Placing imminent demise neatly to one side, KIWI JR. concentrate on the real Issues: the terrible alliance between King Crab and the timezones; 3D printing causing mass sculptor redundancies; and the playlist at the Duane Reade. After all, who is it we’re really voting for: Spartacus or the dead?”

This is hardly cause to not vote for someone, for as it has been forever known, we are all Spartacus. He represents the best of us but is just as dead as actor Kirk Douglas, life-long Democrat, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and son of a Russian horse trader.

Does the video, shot live on location at a candidates’ debate between two horse jockeys in a church basement, provide any clues as to what that could mean? No.

Will it sway any undecided voters ahead of tonight’s Presidential debate? Also no.

Is it full of hooks and permeated with the sort of low-key dread necessary to motivate a populace into action? Yes.

Just vote with your gut and keep an eye on King Crab.

The release of “Undecided Voters” also comes with the news that Kiwi Jr. has signed to Sub Pop Records and are getting set to release their sophomore LP in 2021 on their own Kiwi Club label.
