Foghorn Brewing Company Hosts International Women’s Day Collaboration Brew and it Sparkles!

Foghorn Brewing Company in Rothesay, New Brunswick, is celebrating International Women’s Day with a very special, limited edition, collaboratively brewed Sparkölsch Beer, and it sparkles. On March 5th, they will be releasing their new beer for a limited time in locations around New Brunswick, with proceeds from sales going towards supporting programming for women the Greater Saint John Area.

International Women’s Day may not be until Sunday, March 8, 2020 but Foghorn Brewing Company needed a head start. Their first-ever International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day took place back in February to make sure shelves were stocked with their new Sparkölsch.

Taking their lead from Sarah Tippet, Marketing and Sales Manager for Foghorn Brewing Company, along with Wendy Papadopoulos and Alyssa Donaldson, head brewers at Big Tide Brewing Co. and Loyalist City Brewing Co. respectively, the trio decided on a Kölsch-style beer for its “clean, crisp flavour and its sparkling appearance.”

And if that “sparkling appearance” wasn’t enough, they also added a food-grade silver glitter during the kegging process to really make it pop.

The rest of the brewing team included a collaboration of women from many of New Brunswick’s craft breweries: Foghorn Brewing Company, Big Tide Brewing Co., Loyalist City Brewing Co., Gahan House Port City, Graystone Brewing, Hampton Brewing Co., Picaroons General Store, and Red Rover Craft Cider.

“New Brunswick’s craft beer industry is bursting with incredibly diverse and talented producers,” says Tippett. “Traditionally, brewing beer was spearheaded by women, both at home and as those small batches became businesses, and we wanted to recognize the role women continue to play in our industry. At the International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day back in February here at Foghorn, we were joined by women who are head brewers, who support the marketing and sales function for the breweries, are general managers of breweries and taprooms, and servers who share their passion for NB’s craft beer with their customers. Women continue to play an important role in this industry, and we wanted to celebrate that.”

Tippet explains that the beer acts as “a symbol of the diversity of the women in New Brunswick’s craft beer industry both in generations past, those working today, and those pushing the boundaries for tomorrow. With the theme of International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day being Unite Tribute 2020, Sparkölsch hits the mark on a number of levels.”

Also, it looks like someone squeezed the Milky Way (not a Milkshake IPA) into a pint glass. We expect to see a lot of special orders of Sparkölsch at weddings and music festivals.
