Fredericton’s Playhouse is eager to properly welcome back audiences after an entire season being missed due to the pandemic. Their 2021-2022 Spotlight Series makes up for a bit of lost time with a full line-up this season, including twenty-eight performances spanning theatre, circus, comedy, dance, and music.
“We are thrilled to be back to providing a full Spotlight Series this year,” says Tim Yerxa, the Playhouse’s Executive Director. “And we couldn’t be more excited to welcome audiences back for what promises to be an exceptional season of live performance.”
As part of recovering from their lost season, they’ve rescheduled several acts that had been set to appear during the 2019-20 season: particularly the Classic Albums Live performances, the award-winning Indigenous dance company Red Sky Performance, and arguably one of the best-titled shows to ever hit the stage: God is a Scottish Drag Queen 2: The Second Coming.
Musically, we see some highlights, which includes the folk darlings of Saint John Tomato/Tomato, a Christmas performance from Canadian chart-topper Chantal Kreviazuk, Hawksley Workman and Sarah Slean, the very legendary Beverly Glenn-Copeland, our local representative from the department of thunder and lightning Ben Caplan, and Brent Mason who will be throwing his annual birthday party for Bob Dylan.
“We’ve lined up a number of remarkable performances this year and can’t wait to see audiences back in person,” says Yerxa. “There’s something for everyone in this series, no matter your taste or budget.”
