Single: Adyn Townes Warns Against the Dangers of Overthinking on ‘Leave It Alone’

Adyn Townes released his newest single Leave It Alone today. It’s his first of 2020, but it won’t be his last. He tells us that we can be expecting a lot of music from him all leading up to a full album release early next year.

Like most musicians at this time, Townes had to shift his workflow to adhere to the current restrictions of quarantine. It made the final process much more drawn out, but in the end, his established rapport with producer Colin Buchanan helped them navigate a new flow.

In addition to producing, Buchanan served double duty by playing bass on the track. Townes’ bandmate Bruce Rooney took to the track by playing both guitar and keys, while drums were done by Josh Langille.

Townes wrote “Leave it Alone” late last year on the perils of overthinking. The track turned out to be a timely release regarding a pastime that has preoccupied many of us these last few months. The inner workings of a busy mind coming through clearly in the lyrics of this track.

“It’s about the search for answers to questions that can’t be quieted,” says Townes.

Questions expressed as declarations can be found in abundance throughout the single, which, along with Adyn’s buttery vocals, gives it a bit of a therapeutic feel during a time of collective introspection.

Despite the theme of uncertainty running through the lyrics, the song moves through its quest for answers with a very peaceful flow; it doesn’t offer a resolution of the journey but leaves the questions hanging over the listener.

The lyrics “I want my name back”, might draw the attention of Townes long time fans, but he commented, “It was just a reference to remembering who you are and where you came from. Sometimes in life or amidst a person’s struggles, it’s easy to lose their identity.”
