Music Video: Mauno Want You to Know How Well They’re Doing With ‘Really Really’

Mauno return with “Really Really,” the first single from their upcoming album, Really Well, and a lesson that things maybe don’t always have to be as hard as we make them. The video is a reminder that we really really don’t miss anything from Phys Ed. class, but the song itself is perhaps a broader cautionary tale about avoiding arduous tasks in general; like moving to another continent.

The album’s opening track was written by Mauno’s vocalist, bass and key player Eliza Niemi before she moved to Germany, digging into the sense of loss and ex-pat identity that fills the void in an absence of familiar people and surroundings. The song’s title comes in as that invariable mantra response to the perennial question of “how are doing” offered out of reflex, politeness, or futile stoicism.

Presumably the band are consistent in that, despite what they’ve described as “very real and intensive exercise […] placing the band in an arduous video shoot that pushed them to their physical limit.” They look uncomfortable, awkward and bathed in a harsh and unflattering fluorescent light, but director Max Taeuschel saves the day by tossing the video into a vertical format suitable for you suitable and/or signalling the end is nigh.

At least we’re confident that the band are doing really, really well.
