Wintersleep’s material has been nail-on-the-head topical as of late. That is if you consider the near-inevitable collapse of society and the extinction of humans as a species and anyone we can take with us as being topical. Keeping with the nature of most contemporary art, the band’s new video for “Forest Fire” is yet another reminder that our metaphorical house is on fire.
Coming off of Wintersleep’s In The Land Of, their latest album has already treated to a series of ear candy that keeps us dancing through the horrific dissolution of the first world, and a few hints that maybe we did’t deserve to be here in the first place.
In keeping with what may be a Wintersleep tradition, we’re seeing yet another video featuring a house fire, this time from award-winning film-maker Christopher Mills. The video ties animation and screen mapping together, married to the beat of the music, to unfold a succession of disasters as mother nature inevitably reclaims what was always hers. We succumb to our own hubris, a tragic and fleeting blip on the cosmic radar.
Our place here is only temporary. The world will carry on without us. Might as well lean in and see Wintersleep while you car.
