Single: Good Dear Good Debut Their First Official Release – ‘The Storm’

After performing together since October 2018, Halifax’s Good Dear Good are finally releasing their debut single. “The Storm” is a light and dreamy jangle, full of vague allusion that lends itself to open interpretations… at least, that’s what songwriter Timothy Hatcher insists.

“As the writer of the song, I typically don’t elaborate too much on what the song means to me or what I think it’s about,” says Hatcher. “I like the idea of people finding what they need to find within the song, and letting that be the meaning; which can be completely separate and different from person to person. Without going into too much detail, the song to me represents the seemingly inescapable states you can find yourself in, regardless of your outside surroundings.”

So it would be impolite to suggest the song might be applied to the story of an aspiring tightrope walker, taking to the skies for the first time, and amongst their discoveries of birds and thrills, also happens to find… the storm. We will mention nothing of the sort and leave it to the reader to determine the nature of the song.

Working with producer John Mullane, Hatcher says that the song is the first of something that will hopefully turn into something more.

“This was definitely first step in getting the ball rolling,” says Hatcher. “Ideally we’re hoping to compile an EP of some sort that would include this single, but we haven’t really fully explored that idea yet. But hopefully a solid plan of attack will be put together soon that’ll outline what we’re doing.”
