Music Video: Mauno Prepare to Ship New Album with ‘Take Care’

Mauno is getting ready to ship out their upcoming album, Really Well, but before the send off that precious cargo they’ve prepared a new music video to remind you to “Take Care.”

Directed by Max Taeuschel and Aaliyeh Afshar, the video was
filmed in Montreal and takes a pleasingly minimalistic approach which is reminiscent of Christopher Hill’s direction of Architecture in Helsinki’s “Contact High.” It’s a cat’s dream; full of boxes, packing peanuts, and bubble wrap. The video features bandmates Nick Everett and Eliza Niemi being primped, packaged, and prepared for shipping.

Despite the extra efforts made to handle the video with care, the song itself, however, comes with a double-edged sword. Niemi lyrically and methodically picks away at the necessary expectations of a relationship.

“’Take Care’ is a play on words,” explains Eliza Niemi, “It’s about caregiving as a woman, and also about saying goodbye. It is about filling the role of taking care of someone and self-identifying through that, while simultaneously resenting the expectation of having to do so. The chorus begins hinting at waiting for a relationship to finally feel reciprocal, and ends with the reveal of me actually waiting for it to fall apart / knowing all along that it was doomed.”

Mauno’s new album, Really Well, is out August 2, 2019.
