During tonight’s Festival 506 festivities, Music/Musique NB announced the winners for their 2019 Prix MNB Awards, and no one won tonight quite like Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire, who took home roughly a quarter of the awards.
Celebrating the best of New Brunswick’s music industry tonight, along with the Prix MNB Awards’ Tenth anniversary, the event kicked off Festival (506) at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre in Moncton.
Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire were the clear winners – taking home five awards in the categories of Enregistrement de L’Année, Group Recording of the Year, Chanson SOCAN de L’Année, Live Act of the Year, and their sixth win for the Choix du Public award.
This year, Music/Musique NB made big changes to their Prix MNB Awards. Several new categories were created to better reflect the changing industry.
“It is important for us to celebrate the variety of ways in which artists and industry professionals practice their craft and earn a living,” says Jean Surette, MNB Executive Director.
“The Prix MNB Award Show is an opportunity to remind ourselves that New Brunswick artists–on and off of this evening’s stage–warrant our support, respect and engagement,” mentions Penelope Stevens, MNB President. “Our Awards are only able to recognize a small snapshot of the hundreds of creators in the province. There are dozens of artists performing in basements and DIY spaces across the province, and they need our support too,” concludes Stevens.
