Single: Rawlins Cross Celebrates 30 Years With New Album and ‘Love Comes Around the Corner’

Rawlins Cross are  still here to scratch the Celtic itch after 30 years. They’re celebrating their anniversary with the announcement of a new album, a Maritime Tour and the release of their latest single, “Love Comes Around the Corner.”

Written by Geoff Panting, Rawlins Cross’s regular lyricist, pianist, and backing vocals, the new single, “Love Comes Around the Corner” launches in with the line: “He’s in love with a phantom who lives over the hill.”

The band bill it as a uplifting appeal to love and hope… reminiscent of 1970’s piano rockers, but it’s a brutal tease for a generation raised on Ghostbusters and on the edge of their seats, waiting for the third installment.

The track even finds a counterpart to this post-mortem passion: “She’s in love with a dreamer who’s long lost at sea, she knows he’s never coming home.”

Judging from the tone the song takes, it might be assumed these two find their way to each other, all is well and they live happily ever after. But this could all quickly take another direction entirely with the last verse.

“But love comes around the corner,
hits you right between the eyes,
love comes around the corner,
surprise, surprise, surprise”

Hopefully, that “surprise” is the return of their loved ones from beyond the grave, giving this track a solid M. Night Shyamalan twist. We’re holding out that this one gets a sequel.

“We’re really looking forward to hitting the road again this summer and fall to share some brand-new music with our friends and fans!” says Ian McKinnon, percussionist and whistleist.

“It’s crazy to consider that it’s been 30 years since we named the band and starting gigging around St. John’s. I can honestly say that the band has never sounded better. And we’re still having a load of fun playing together!”

The band promises “Love Comes Around the Corner” will also be treated to a music video in the new future.

To the delight of their many (many) fans, Rawlins Cross will be releasing Flying Colours, the band’s 10th studio recording, in November, 2019. They’ll probably even deliver it to a town near you – check out those tour dats.
