Lawnya Vawnya: An Exposition of Independent Art & Culture Returns May 22 – Announce First Round of Performers

Lawnya Vawnya: An Exposition of Independent Art & Culture will be returning for its ninth instalment from May 22- 25, 2019 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This morning, the festival announced the first instalment of their ninth instalment’s performing artists, including U.S. Girls and more.

“We are excited to present headlining performances by recent Polaris Prize shortlister and Juno Award nominee, U.S. Girls, the Toronto-based experimental pop band fronted by vocalist Meghan Remy; Indigenous hip hop duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids from The Haisla Nation, BC; Edmonton, Alberta’s Faith Healer, balancing melancholy lyrics with playful moods and lush arrangements; Bonjay, one of Toronto’s most exciting emerging R&B acts to watch; Montreal folk artist Camille Delean showcasing stunning vocals and velvety melodies; Lex Leosis, a hip hop artist from Toronto with roots in the competitive world of slam poetry and rap; Buzz Record’s Lonely Parade, a tight-knit art-punk trio from Peterborough, ON; and Jon Hynes, a Newfoundland born folk-rock singer-songwriter now based in Ottawa, ON. We are also thrilled to present Montreal electronic pop duo Moon King and Bonnie Trash, a psyche-rock goth-noir duo from Guelph, Ontario.

“With more amazing performances by Badge Epoque Ensemble (ON), Absolutely Free (ON), Protruders (ON), Gulfer (QC), Spring Var (NL), Swamps (NL), Tired Wired (NL), Renders (NL), Jenina MacGillivray (NL), Justin Strong (NL), Secret Connection (NL/ON), Swimming (NL), Gossamer (NL), Banana Vacuum (NL), Worst Lay (NL) and the Renee Sharpe Show.

“Also on the schedule are panel discussions, artist talks, a film screening in partnership with the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, readings in partnership with Riddle Fence Arts Magazine, a record and press fair, pop-up shows and the always popular all-age music crawls.”

According to the festival, roughly half of the lineup has been announced with more to follow shortly, along with details of the festival’s schedule.
