In the deep dark depths of February it feels like we couldn’t possibly miss the summer months more than we do now and then something comes along that reminds of how we can barely remember the colour green, or how much we enjoy the music of June Body. Thanks to photographer/videographer Alex Boyd we get a bittersweet refresher on both with this newly released tour mini-documentary from June Body’s trip through Ontario and Quebec with Species of Trees last summer. Having found their new home with Vancouver-based label Mint Records,  expat Prince-Edward-Islanders Kiwi Jr. got down to the business of settling in with a new album. Music Video: Pineo & Loeb (ft. After Funk & Liinks) cover Michael Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’

Pineo & Loeb weren’t exactly lowering the bar with ELEVATION. As easy as it would be to dismiss their latest album for being a collection of covers, they’ve picked some amazing songs and collaborators to work with. These covers feel like genuine upgrades, breathing fresh life into songs that long held positions at the top of the game. Today the duo released their first video from the album: a cover, featuring After Funk and Liinks, of Michael Jackson’s Grammy-nominated hit from 1995, “Earth Song.” Honestly, we might like it better than the original. Playlist: Listen to the Musicians Representing the East Coast at Folk Alliance International

Canada’s East Coast is about to take centre stage, or at least an impressive chunk of it, at the Folk Alliance International Conference, the largest folk music industry event in the world. With more than 10% of the event’s 150 performers representing Atlantic Canada, we get to celebrate our folksy ways on an international level.
