Tim Baker teased us back in October with a video of “Dance” cobbled together from his Side Door series of small venue performances. Taken from his upcoming solo album, Forever Overhead, the song created a buzz for an already much-anticipated release from the former Hey Rosetta! frontman. While beautiful on its own, the song takes on an extra layer of amazing with this new official video, directed by Jordan Canning.
Rarely does a song get treated to such a perfect video pairing. There is more conveyed through Tim Baker and Sydney Levitt’s simple looks and gestures than most short stories contain.
Filmed in the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, the video provides a brief glimpse into a shared moment of quiet isolation between two coworkers. Amidst the ironically unnatural environment of glassed-off dioramas and stuffed animals, it leaves us questioning whether we belong in such places ourselves. In a world that has become saturated with artifice to the point that nature must be preserved, how might we interact when stripped of society?
“Dance” looks like a strong contender for the 2020 East Coast Music Award for Video of the Year.
Forever Overhead will be released on April 19 via Arts & Crafts.
