The Canadian Folk Music Awards are back in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to celebrate their 17th edition in 2022. Today they’ve announced their list of award nominees in 19 categories from across the country,
Among the nominees announced today, two artists, in particular, stood out. Allison Russell and Rob Lutes both led the way with four nominations each. Russell and her album, Outside Child, were nominated in the categories of Contemporary Album of the Year, English Songwriter of the Year, New/Emerging Artist of the Year, and the Oliver Schroer Pushing the Boundaries Award, while Lutes and his album, Come Around, received nominations in the categories of Contemporary Album of the Year, Contemporary Singer of the Year, English Songwriter of the Year, and Producer of the Year.
Among the Atlantic Canadians nominated this year are Terra Spencer, Morgan Toney, Isabella Samson, The Gilberts, Adam Young, Laura Smith, The Deep Dark Woods, Émilie Landry, Alicia Toner, The East Pointers (with Lonely Kid), and Paige Penney.

The CFMAs also note the change from ‘Global Roots Album of the Year’ to its new name in 2022 of ‘World Album of the Year,’ and the slight alteration in their submission processes which allows albums to be submitted in more than one songwriting category, provided they meet the category requirements.
