Mallory Johnson and Twin Kennedy Come Together With Message of Empowerment on ‘Wise Woman’

Nashville-based but Canadian-born artists Mallory Johnson and Julie and Carli of Twin Kennedy have come together to release a gentle but powerful track promoting girl power. With “Wise Woman,” the artists take a step away from the standard, hard-hitting sound of women-empowerment tracks and instead take to softness in their expression of this issue that hits them close to home.

Following the track’s release by two weeks comes the release of its accompanying video that further fosters a sense of unity through diversity and inclusion.

“We’ve always found that our most personal songs are written with close friends who are also our co-writers,” says Twin Kennedy. “Mallory came over to our house one night, we opened a bottle of wine and sat on the patio with our guitars. Inspired by our shared struggles as women in a male-dominated industry, ‘Wise Woman’ was born!

“Maybe it was the patio lights or maybe it was the merlot – it was one of those songwriting sessions where the music just flowed out of us.”

According to Johnson, once the writing process had begun, the emotions behind the cause carried the track.

“I expected our writing session would quickly turn into a classic girls’ night with wine, pizza, and gossip,” says Johnson. “But then Carli came out with her guitar and sang a verse of a song she had started titled ‘Wise Woman.’ I’ll never forget the overwhelming emotions I felt hearing those few words. It was something not only women in the entertainment industry could relate to, but women in any industry. Music is a powerful thing that brings people together and I believe this song fits that description perfectly.”

Recorded in Nashville, “Wise Woman” was produced by Canadian producer Dustin Olyan (David Lee Murphy, Angaleena Presley) and co-produced by Johnson and the Kennedy sisters. The track also features some of Nashville’s most prominent session players: Steve Hinson (George Jones, Randy Travis), Tim Marks (Taylor Swift, Luke Combs) and Jeff Adamczyk (Midland).

The track will appear on Twin Kennedy’s upcoming album Homebound as well as Johnson’s next album, which has yet to be named but is currently in production.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the three women will also be putting on Wise Woman – The Show, a virtual event, later in March. The show will be presented by the Consulate General of Canada to the Southeast United States and hosted by Twin Kennedy & Mallory Johnson. The event will present empowering conversation and will feature performances by other Canadian artists in Nashville, including Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Crystal Shawanda, Madeline Merlo, Molly Brown, Tenille Arts and Victoria Banks.
