The Once Release ‘I Can’t Live Without You’ From New Album ‘Time Enough’

JUNO award-winning Newfoundlanders The Once are preparing to release their fourth album, Time Enough, but in the meantime they’re prepared to whet your whistle with their freshest single, “I Can’t Live Without You.”

Not to be confused to with Harry Nilsson‘s hit, but falling more in line with Fleetwood Mac, The Once’s new track has an undoubtably vintage feel to it.

The band explain that the track, and in fact the entire album, marks a sea change for their song-writing process. Band members Geraldine Hollett, Phil Churchill, and Andrew Dale are maintaining that trademark sound of their three-part harmonies, though their approach has shifted to solo composing and collective arranging.

“We approached Time Enough with an open heart and an open mind,” says Hollett. “We are pretty tough customers so it was scary bringing so much guts to the table, but over the years we have earned and accepted one another’s trust. This album is special because of it.”

“I Can’t Live Without You,” naturally takes on a different tone in 2018 than it might in 1971. Rather than the unbridled yearning of Harry Nilsson‘s hit,  instead The Once explain that their track is about women battling with self-image issues.

Following the East Coast Music Awards, The Once will be embarking on a month-long tour of the UK, though note that they’ll be announcing a series of Canadian tour dates in the not too distant future.

The Once‘s new album, Time, Enough will be released on May 11th, 2018.
