Mike Trask Visits His Own Pepperland on ‘Yellow Sky’

Mike Trask continues barreling down the path he first set foot on in 2017 with his album, Derealization. It’s not a straight path, but it is one that takes him further and further away from this plane of existence and off into his own version of Pepperland – each subsequent video bringing him another step removed from reality and into a cornucopia of colours. His latest, “Yellow Sky,” has Trask going full Sgt. Pepper as he “rides the rainbow.”

What does it take to defeat Mike Trask? Does he bleed the same as mortal men, and if he does, what colour would his blood be? Has his corporeal form passed beyond the physical and into a world where light and energy have become interchangeable and death is dealt out mercilessly from the tip of a unicorn’s horn? Does Trask still acknowledge this universe, or does he simply pass through it with a crest of art funk trailing in his wake?

This is Trask exploring more than realms of colour, but also adventuring into the realm of self-exploration. “Yellow Sky,” with its similarly inverted “big blue sun,” questions the nature of creativity while letting it run, roughshod, over Trask’s music video.

Much of that wild creativity comes from tapping Amanda B Fox of Sneaky Fox Design for the creation of the “Yellow Sky” Artwork.

“I met Amanda B Fox a few years ago and really admired her artwork,” says Trask. “She made the album cover for my 2017 release, Derealization, and when I was planning the video for ‘Yellow Sky’ I knew in my head there was no one better to help make this video come to life. I had so much fun animating Amanda’s art and am so excited for the world we created!”

Recorded and self-produced at Trask’s own MRC studio, “Yellow Sky,” is expected to appear on Mike Trask’s 10th album, TV DINNER sometime in the near future.
