Music Video: Sleepless Nights Capture Isolation and Anxiety in a 4:3 Frame for ‘Greatest Hits’

Music videos aren’t the sort of thing you’d expect to see a sequel from. Those little bubbles of music tend to exist in their own little space and time. Given that we’ve spent most of this year isolating inside of our own bubbles, “Greatist Hits” the latest music video from Sleepless Nights, feels like we’re all that much more connected to it. Or we desperately want to be connected to it. And if we can’t live vicariously through this character embarking for an extrabubble activity, we may have to resort to fan-fiction.

Following the safety-protocals de jeur the video for “Greatest Hits” was conceived of, shot, and edited in quarantine.

Not that many other options are presently available.

The video captures a frantic energy inside of a 4:3 frame, tieing in directly with your at-home isolation experience. If the future of story-teller is to be immersive, this is already the equivalent of having a tilt-a-whirl in your living room, ready to make you nauseous at a moment’s notice. Through the magic of technology, we can make the best of isolation together!

“I wanted to highlight the shared feelings that we’re all in the same situation. There’s a huge weight of responsibility to do your part in this effort. It’s a sacrifice, but it’s really important that we all do this together,” says Nathan Boone, the filmmaker behind “Greatest Hits”. “We made a video in a bubble to highlight why it’s important to stay in the bubble. From the production to the design to the post, we pulled it off from within our home without breaking the lockdown.”

“Greatest Hits” is the latest single to be released from Sleepless Night’s new album, Every Word is a Trap. Every Word is a Trap was released on May 29, 2020 via Acadian Embassy.

While the album contains six more tracks for you to explore, we’ll be left window-gazing a while longer before we learn the fate of our anxious protagonist.
