Music Video: Joel Plaskett Isn’t Putting Down Roots But Certainly Revisiting Them On ‘Just Passing Through’

Joel Plaskett’s latest release, “Just Passing Through,” provides a glimpse into his transient lifestyle along with the title track to the second of four albums contained within his massive upcoming quadruple album, 44.

Plaskett eases in off the album’s previously released video, still at the typewriter where we left him at the typewriter on “Head Over Heels Into Heaven.” Building off a crescendo that blurs the lines Buffalo Springfield’s “Expecting to Fly” and The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields,” with what John Lennon described as “messing with the tapes,” Plaskett immediately launching himself into a solid 4/4 that could land flat amongst some classic Tragically Hip.

“I’d like to make your acquaintance, but I’m just passing through,” sings a nonchalant Plaskett from the depths of visual effects that might similarly be born of Canada’s nascent music industry, completely with layered overlays and a classic snapback.

Pieced together by Jeff Miller from footage shot on Plaskett’s phone camera taken over the years, “Just Passing Through” might have just as easily sprung out of 1990 as 2020.

Joel Plaskett’s 44 is set for release on April 17, 2020, the day before his 45th birthday.
