Ever wonder what it looks like to blow throw $10 worth of sparklers in slow motion? Experiencing feelings of inadequacy at being unable to afford such lavishly extravagant indulgences? Sparklers may be a rich man’s game, but Kill Chicago’s new video for “Two Drinks Behind” has both the cause and the cure to the limitations of your station in life.
“Our new song, ‘Two Drinks Behind,’ deals with the overarching feeling of comparing where you are in life to others around you,” says Greg Webber, singer for Kill Chicago and man holding two lit sparklers. “For this one, we invited our friend and former bandmate – Don Levandier of The Motorleague – to add his hauntingly powerful voice to our confessional minor bop.”
The song fits well into Kill Chicago’s repertoire, as they continue to challenge the inadequacies of whatever system is nearest at hand. As usual, the band are tackling the outlying themes of ‘cui bono?’ and subtly doling out pointed lessons and the occasional metaphorical bloody noses through subversive lyrics and gritty riffs.
Filmed by the band’s multi-talented multi-instrumentalist Dillon Anthony, the video for “Two Drinks Behind” is a marathon – the cold steely stares of a band that’s been on the wrong end of the deal, and unaccustomed to shelling out fortunes on fireworks and filmmaking.
For all their supposed frugality, the band literally burned through their materials and, despite the princely sum necessary for video production, several shots required multiple takes. Webber can be seen in the outtake below, taking a sparkling to the face in a blatant disregard for both safety and film budget.
The Fix, the second album from Kill Chicago, is due to be released on November 8 at the Capital Complex in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
