Single: The Pine’s ‘A Long, Long Time’ Looks Back on Love Lost

Somewhere between the dusty old corner of George Lucas’s mind that Naboo fell out of and a frozen cornfield near Clear Lake, Iowa stands the latest, and second, single from Charlottetown’s The Pine. “A Long, Long Time”. Fitting solidly into that theme, the new single takes a look back at what we’ve lost with more than a little nostalgia and what it takes to move on.

“At its core, I suppose the song is about moving on, acceptance, and letting go,” says Evan Ceretti, the band’s lyricist and guitarist.

Ceretti says he wrote “A Long, Long Time” at home, piecing together the guitar parts and melodies on a looper. While the song itself needles away on few “what-ifs,” specifically in the territory of love lost, Ceretti explains that the ambient vibe of the track meant he’d often play it to relax and slow his mind down.

It’s full of the little fears that come to haunt in the small hours of the night, but Ceretti brushes them off stoically as nothing more than song fodder.

“I kind of hate talking about some of the songs publicly,” laughs Ceretti, “but, as with a lot of The Pine’s other material, writing allows me to get things of my chest and digest life. It’s cathartic.”

“Obviously, the song is about a person who was impactful in my life on many levels. It’s funny, you know – sometimes we write when we’re feeling a certain emotion, but when looking back at the lyrics we may not relate to those lyrics in same way anymore but it allows us to remember how we once felt.”

“A Long, Long Time” is only the second single from The Pine, following up on their debut single “Running From You.” The band are continuing to release a series singles piecemeal, without an immediate plans for an album.
