Kim Harris (Daniel Ledwell)

Single: Kim Harris Soars on ‘Once You Were Wondrous’

Kim Harris stuns with her new single. “Once You Were Wondrous” falls into that magical category of songs that leaving you wondering: “Can they really pull that off live?” With a polyrhythmic pitter-patter on piano and Harris’s vocals making off with the melody like a bandit, “Once You Were Wondrous” is a song that demands you go big or go home.

It’s the third single that Harris has released this year, following a five-year-long hiatus. Paired with the previously released “Heirloom” and “Uproar”, “Once You Were Wondrous” is now the third instalment in a trilogy of Harris’ own journey of self-discovery and re-invention.

Harris presents the song as an inner dialogue where the fears of losing her sparkle are assuaged by the little voice inside her head. It’s a tiny war being waged between her ego and her super-ego.

“In ‘Once You Were Wondrous,’ I’m in conversation with myself. The verses are my corporeal self, who is realizing how much of her own electric current she has lost over time,” Harris explains.

“The chorus is my higher self, in the ether, coming back into my life dramatically, to advise me. She reminds me that I am ‘mountain-hearted,’ and that I can ‘bend the light’ in an underwater dreamscape; all of that power has been in me, lying in wait. In the second verse, I ask for something more to keep me here in the world, physically and spiritually, and I mean it. ‘Once You Were Wondrous’ is the internal dialogue of an intentional regeneration of spirit, a process I frequently circle back to.”

Kim Harris’s new full-length album is set to arrive in early 2020 via LHM Records.
