You’d think Dave Sampson would be doing victory laps right now—his single, “No Pressure”, co-written with rappers Classified and Snoop Dogg, was just certified Gold in Canada—but he’s just gearing up. Ahead of his upcoming album, Dave Sampson has gotten around to putting some serious polish on “Trouble.”
“This song has always resonated with me and my audience and I am thrilled to release it to the world,” says Sampson. “This song speaks for itself, It’s about someone who is trying their best to stay out of trouble, but inevitably it always comes around.”
“Trouble” was written three years ago at the Gordie Sampson Song Camp by Dave Sampson’s friends and collaborators Caitlyn Smith Brandon Davis JR, and Gordie Sampson. It then appeared in a video back in 2016, featuring Sampson, Port Cities and the kind of harmonies that’ll make you believe you’ve found religion.
The new version has far more production thrown into it; swapping out the lap steel for a more soulful organ, and electric solos. It’s a classic combination that finds Sampson sandwiched between sin and salvation.
“Trouble” is just the teaser for more to come, with Sampson releasing an album later this year, and plenty of tour dates in the meantime.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the road this summer with the band and playing for some new audiences around Canada,” Sampson says. “After spending the last year writing and recording, its really exciting to get out and play these songs.”
