Music videos and silent films aren’t the sort of thing you’d expect to cross paths very often – given their antithetical nature – but that won’t stop Shotgun Jimmie. The Sackvillian darling and his band took the opportunity of performing at Sappyfest this year to film a video for “Fountain,” the latest single from his album Transistor Sister 2, which was released this August.
Not to say that the band are making sweet musical lemonade, but Jimmie waxing on making breaking in West Texas for 65 of his friends while musing on the preposterously absurd concept of Nickelbjörk (as much as we’re dying to see that), is a pure indulgence of whimsy.
Shot and directed in black and white by You’ve Changed Records’ Colin Medley, the video features practically an entire niche of the music schene, including By Divine Right’s José Contreras, Ladyhawk’s Ryan Peters, Do Make Say Think’s Jay Baird and, of course, Jimmie himself.
Jimmie has also announced an extension of tour dates throughout the rest of the country, and in particular his shows supporting Thrush Hermit 20th anniversary victory lap of their album Clayton Park.
“Last November, mere hours after wrapping the album’s recording, the band and I played an exclusive preview of Transistor Sister 2 in the front room of Toronto’s Tranzac Club. It was a crowded night of pals, pints and joyous rock n’roll,” Jimmie explains. “Nearly a year later, we’re excited to be returning to The Tranzac’s main stage for the album’s official Toronto release show!”
