Single: Botfly Drop Two New Tracks – ‘Truth in Numbers’ and ‘Nervous Tick’

Halifax hardcore noise punk trio Botfly have given us the gift of two new singles just in time for spring weather: “Truth in Numbers” and “Nervous Tick.”  So roll down those car windows and get ready to wake up your neighbours with these two powerful tracks.

“Truth In Numbers” starts us off with a rapid drum and guitar beat which lays foundation for the rest of the track. The band takes no time getting a hard party energy established and as soon as we hear Keegans Goodspeed’s vocals, suddenly jumping into a mosh pit will seem almost necessary.

The track continues to drive the energy forward until about midway through giving us second of static before throwing us back into the chaos again.

“No love from me to you, was ever going to pull us through
Stuck in a constant state of self disappointment
And you say that I hate you
While I hope that isn’t true”

The lyrics point us in the direction of a failed relationship however, Goodspeed wants you to take the time to interpret the meaning however you may see it.

“I try to keep the actual meaning behind my songs a little under wraps,” says Goodspeed. “I prefer to allow listeners to find their own connection with what I’m saying as opposed to being too pinpointed. Just because the songs mean one thing to me, doesn’t mean it should have to mean the same thing to the listener.”

“All songs that I write are written from personal feeling or experience. I’ve never been able to write from someone else perspective. I try to just be honest and allow these songs to continue to be a cathartic and a healthy way for me to process my emotions.”

Diving into the deep baseline provided by Sean Mcinnis we proceed to the next single, “Nervous Tick”. With no room for breathe within the chorus we think frontman Goodspeed could potentially survive underwater. “Nervous Tick” has heavy chugging riffs and with guitar shredding thrown in for good measure it eventually comes to a conclusion with a drawn out hum of oscillation.

“There is definitely a lot of things in the works over at camp Botfly,” says Goodspeed. “These two songs however were just some songs we had recorded a while a go and had been sitting on and felt it was finally time to release them. We have a new record we are currently working on, but mixed in with our busy work and touring schedule it’ll be a few months before we’re ready to talk openly about it. However I can say that 2019 will be a busy year for us as a band, and we’re very excited and proud of what we’re currently working on.”
