Single: Moira & Claire Celebrate Maritime Beauty With ‘Again’

Moira & Claire, the Nova Scotian duo whose beautiful harmonies, simple melodies, and tasteful ukulele,  shocked us back in 2017 with their first single, “Your Voice.” They’ve returned with their appropriately titled second single, “Again,” a gentle ode to the beauty of the Maritime provinces.

Pairing just a guitar with their vocals, along with a few avian backup singers, “Again” coaxes us into the sort of therapeutic out-of-body experience of just spending time outdoors. It’s the sort of thing to make you wonder if all that concrete and asphalt, brick and steel, highways, offramps, shopping centres, telemarketers, phone bills, office Christmas parties, tax incentive programs, oils spills, climate change, or corporate monopolies are ever really worth it.

Sometimes, the best things in life are nothing more complicated than some rocks and a few trees.

Moira & Claire also found inspiration in a legend from nearby Prince Edward Island: Anne of Green Gables. Because potato fields can be beautiful too.

“This simple folk melody was inspired by the red-haired orphan Anne of Green Gables and the beautiful nature that surrounds us in the Maritime provinces of Canada. We wanted to get in Anne’s head to feel her emotions as she thinks about her new life,” say the duo.

“The song incorporates the forest with some of the calming noises one often hears in nature – sounds of a brook burbling and birds chirping.”

So, in that spirit, maybe stop looking at your screen, and go spend some quality time outside. You might never want to come back.

(Please, come back though.)
