Premiere: Nick Earle Puts a Happy Spin on Heartbreak With ‘Not Ready to Let Go’

Just because you’re having a rough go of things doesn’t mean you’re required to sound like a flayed cat. Nick Earle puts a spin on heartbreak with his new video for “Not Ready to Let Go” off of his solo album, Breaking New Ground. Recorded live at The Citadel House in Lewisporte, NL and filmed by videographer and iceberg hunter extraordinaire Tom Cochrane, the song showcases Earle’s abilities as a performer and puts a rosy melody on some less cheery subject matter.

“This tune is essentially an upbeat take on heartbreak,” explains Earle. “Coming from a blues background, it’s easy to fall into greasy-guitar faced, slow jams, but I wanted to make sure I was putting out enough upbeat and somewhat rockin’ things on my initial debut, to keep and attract listeners for what’s to come in the future.

“At it’s core, it’s a Subject A/Subject B song ,where one party leaves the other, but I’ve also tried to make it a high energy, easy singalong piece to be enjoyed at concerts and festivals, sang loudly in cars, and hummed throughout workdays, as ‘no’ isn’t a hard lyric to remember.”

While “no” fits snugly in the category of words one might not want sung back at them, ranking just slightly above “boo,” Earle has been performing it for crowds with fun results that have proven to get people moving.

Earle is playing a handful of dates this month, including Larlee Creek Hullabaloo in New Brunswick, and a very special fundraiser show for Young Adult Cancer Canada being held in Rockport, NL.

“Paul Brace is the leader of the show. He is a cancer survivor himself, and just an absolute badass of positive vibes,” says Earle.

Brace famously recorded his solo album Liars and Actors while battling stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 32. Not only did he beat cancer, he earned an ECMA for Inspirational Recording of the Year for his album.

“[YACC] helped him out when he was going through his battle, and when I got the call, I was so down to help him give back. Hoping we can raise a metric sh*t load to present to them.”

Earle says that, between dates,  he’ll be taking time to work on his next project, while solidifying more dates for the fall, which he promises is already looking very busy.
