Single: The Royal Volts Reveal Bizarre Touring Jokes With ‘King of the Road’

Just in time for the dead of summer, The Royal Volts have released this year’s headbanging touring theme song, “King Of The Road.” As their second single, the track reassures us the band are keeping their sound loud and and fast, and they’re pulling no punches while serving us straight-up rock ‘n’ roll.

Though the track could lend itself to any time spent on the road, it was specifically inspired by the musician’s life of gigging and touring. Coincidently, it also has roots that are strangely similar to Limp Bizkit’s Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water.

“‘King Of The Road’ was made up of some of the funny shit we have done or other musicians have told us while we were out gigging,” says vocalist and guitarist Jordan Pirri.

But with lyrics “Drove a thousand miles, played a thousand shows,” the track’s inspiration it not hidden.

“My favourite line of the song is by far ‘don’t forget your coffee and hotdog tea.’ Yes, it happened. In Moncton, on top of Plan B (R.I.P).”

According to Guitar World Presents Nu-Metal, Limp Bizkit’s album title was also inspired by a joke bass player Wes Borland made at a truck stop about hot dog-flavoured water while the band were on the tour. And if that album’s success (no judgements) can be attributed in any way to its hotdog water beginnings, The Royal Volts have much to look forward to.

Produced by John Landry of Ragged Head Records, the track is backed  by a heavy and steady drumbeat and mainly carries a fast, punk-rock vibe while the vocals mix blues with anthem-like, sing-along layering.

The single comes off of the Nova Scotia rockers’ upcoming album, which has yet to be named but will be released internationally in January. In the meantime, however, you can catch the band at Trunk 7 Music Festival in Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia.
