Music Video: Partner Blow Through Dozens of Dollars Producing New Video for ‘Lost My Pick, Can I Borrow One?’

Partner may have just been declared the creator’s of Canada greatest rock album of the year, and they may have just won the $10,000 SOCAN Songwriting Prize for their single “Play The Field,” but it doesn’t looking like they’re spending any of that cash on film equipment. They’ve slapped together their latest single “Lost My Pick, Can I Borrow One?” with a DIY video that might have cost them $40 if you include the candle, plus a two-four if they had to borrow their bud’s GoPro.

We don’t want to give too much away about the song, but the gist of it might just center around the eternal struggle of musicians having to search for a guitar pick. We know they weren’t playing an acoustic though, so it’s not like they needed to mount an epic rescue to the depths of guitar purgatory or otherwise attack it like an overgrown maraca.

Truth is, we suspect they’re just to pull a fast one on us. We’ve been duped into announcing their West Coast dates. This is what they’ve been plotting all along. Step 1 – Escape Sackville. Step 2 – Get Shortlisted for Polaris Prize. Step 3 – Use SOCAN money to flee for a better life in warm climes.

They’ve gone and pulled a Gene MacLellan. Straight up Snowbirded us. We won’t see them again before the Spring, or whenever the grant money starts to run out.

To be fair, we can hardly blame them. Winters aren’t supposed to hit this hard in November. Given the option, we’d spend the snowy months basking on the beaches of California too. Have at ‘er!
