Music Video: Dog Day Put Their Human Suits on for ‘Pictures’

Dog Day have joined a motley crew of bands that includes Nickelback and The Cure (but not Mötley Crüe) as they sing of some curious photographs. And much like we will never know exactly what was on Joey’s head, we will also never guess what Dog Day saw, aside from the opportunity to lord this secret knowledge over us through subtle humour while hinting they might also be lizard people. New Music: Lvbor Cvmp’s ‘Bad Taste’ Brimming With Bright Spots, Room for Improvement

After teasing a few headlining tracks on Spotify, Halifax electronica duo Lvbor Cvmp have now dropped into the scene with an eleven-track album to test the waters with their curious sound and style. Though the album has its fair share of questionable ideas and overall feels rather inconclusive in terms of style and identity, it also contains several exciting elements that may very much help the duo blossom in the future if the cards are played right. Music Video: Harvey Alexander Gets Surreal With ‘Green Pillow’

It seems a contradiction of terms to describe bedroom-pop as being elegant, but Harley Alexander revels in the simplicity of it. His 2017 album, Spill Kid, deftly combined the razor edge of a movement with an intimate lo-fi connection, crooning away in solidarity. His upcoming EP, Feeling Things, promises to be his most stripped-down album yet, making space for honest narrative through austerity.

“Green Pillow,” Harley Alexander’s second single off of Feeling Things, addresses one of the top five topics of 2020 (fingers crossed) with a surreal approach to expressing an appreciation for nature. Continue reading Music Video: Harvey Alexander Gets Surreal With ‘Green Pillow’

Music Video: Brandon Voyeur Faces a Crisis of Identity on ‘Not Dead Yet’

Brandon Voyeur is a performance artist. Rather than simply releasing music out in the world and calling it a day, he has manifested a whole larger-than-life persona, a la Thin White Duke. It’s an immolation of character on a level that might make one wonder whether Voyeur wears the role, or the role wears him. It brings into question the whole nature of identity, and who we are from one minute to the next. It may have been a while since we last heard from Brandon Voyeur, as he reminds us with his latest video, he’s “Not Dead Yet”. Single: Owen Meany’s Batting Stance Question the Place of Toxic Masculinity in Sports on ‘The Androgynous Hockey Stick’

Given the inspiration behind the literary namesake of Owen Meany’s Batting Stance, it’s almost surprising we don’t see more sports references from the band.   Then again, Owen Meany was always a very unlikely sports enthusiast; the very nature of the diminutive character proving that we don’t all get to choose our lots in life and some things happen simply as if by some miracle.

Where the subjects of John Irving’s novel overcame some inherent challenges in the sport of basketball, Owen Meany’s Batting Stance takes on the hurdle of toxic masculinity when it comes to hockey on “The Androgynous Hockey Stick”.
