Imperial Theatre Extends Closure in Response to COVID-19

Less than a week since Saint John’s Imperial Theatre first announced that, in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, they will be postponing or cancelling performances throughout the month of March, comes a second announcement: that the Imperial Theatre will be extending their closure until April 30, 2020.

“We have been working with artists and clients to determine the best course of action since the Province’s latest recommendation. At this time we have decided to cancel events up until March 28, 2020,” said Imperial Theatre’s Executive Director Angela Campbell in the in the March 16, 2020 announcement.

“These events will ideally reschedule and we will keep audiences informed about new dates. We will continue to monitor the situation daily and make informed decisions based on information from the Department of Health and the Province. Working proactively to help prevent the spread of the virus is a priority we should all be taking very seriously.

Box office will remain open during regular business hours, however we request the public call whenever possible as opposed to visit in person. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time.”

With much of the arts and culture industry grinding to a halt worldwide among rising numbers of Coronavirus over the last week, further closers have come more as an inevitability than a precaution.

The Imperial Theatre made the official announcement of their closure earlier today:

“This decision, although necessary, was not an easy one to make. Ultimately we were driven by what is in the best interest of Public Safety and to ensure that artists who were planning on touring our region in April will have an opportunity to do so at a later date. Making this decision now, also gives you the ticket holder time to make decisions about the shows you have already invested in.

We are working with as many artists as possible to reschedule their performances.

We will be offering refunds and credits for the cancelled shows and transferring those that have a rescheduled date in place. If you cannot make this rescheduled event you will be issued a refund upon request.

We ask ticket holders to call the Imperial Box Office so that we can process your transactions.

The Box Office is open to phone calls but no in person visits. There may be a higher than normal call volume so we ask for your patience at this time.”
