COMPOSIT Find Inspiration in Fresh Romances and Old NES Chiptune Soundtracks for ‘Make It Right’

The first impression from Halifax-based electronic pop duo COMPOSIT’s latest single, “Make It Right,” is that someone decided that Mega Man should have a love interest, and thus required a romantic theme song. That impression, however, is incorrect; that’s because the inspiration for this track was not at all Mega Man but, in fact, Jurassic Park. The Trews Take to the Ice to Rock Out Without Us on ‘I Wanna Play’

In the year since the world shut down, there have been two anthems that have been hammered home again and again with vehement ferocity: that we all need to be wearing masks and that musicians will trade a kidney to get back in front of a live audience. While we generally no longer condone any songs pertaining to the latter, there have been a few standout exceptions.

Williston Irvine Creates a Self-Titled Album That is Deeply Personal From Top to Bottom

Williston Irvine sets out in earnest to capture his most directly personal work to date. The Halifax-based musician works through some seriously low-key Americana on his new self-titled full-length. Shaolin Riff Their Way Through Inside Jokes and a Reflection of Youthful Ennui on ‘Aunt Acid’

“Aunt Acid,” the second single from Shaolin, is a kaleidoscope of experiences; the Halifax-based four-piece dance around the edges of math rock with a side of funk to create a combination that sounds like Muse, Pink Floyd, Rush and local festival legends Grand Theft Bus all got together to create a post-grunge baby. It’s a wild ride as they slide from genre to genre, picking up the pieces of guitarist Brennon MacKinnon’s riffwork. Dali Van Gogh’s ‘Past Crimes’ is the Fourth Piece of the Puzzle to their Testimony Series

The latest release from Halifax rockers Dali Van Gogh is a hard-edged “anti-love song,” designed to stress the toll that the last year has taken on even the closest relationships,  but “Past Crimes” it’s just another chapter in the much deeper tale that they call The Testimony.  Continue reading Dali Van Gogh’s ‘Past Crimes’ is the Fourth Piece of the Puzzle to their Testimony Series
