Séan McCann is currently touring throughout the Maritime provinces in promotion of his fifth solo album, There’s a Place. The album represents a big step forward for McCann, but also a step back. When he left Great Big Sea in 2013, he was walking away from Canada’s greatest party band, and for him, an unsustainable situation. He has since publicly acknowledged his battle with alcoholism, and has become an advocate for mental health. Continue reading Séan McCann Tours Latest Album, Hints At Great Big Possibilities

New Music: Tampa Release New Material Ahead of Area 506
Even though it’s only August we’re confident that Tampa released one of our favourite albums of 2018 back in March. Rising from the ashes of Danger Cat, the Moncton band’s reincarnation blew us away with their debut Belated Love. But the album proved to be more fruitful than initially advertised. Tay Creek Folk Festival: Probably The Most Adorable Festival In Atlantic Canada
New Brunswick’s festival scene is shifting. In the land of a thousand festivals there is strong competition to be the biggest and the wildest, to build the most over-the-top stages or book the craziest headliners. The largest festivals vie to dominate, or at least differentiate, as they either capture or cater to audiences while competing with new festivals that seem to be popping up all the time. Single: Mike Bochoff Explains the Irony and Struggle of ‘Hali-Famous’
“Hali-Famous” originally appeared on Mike Bochoff’s most recent album, Distractions, as an exclusive Bandcamp offer for those pre-ordering the album, but some things are just too good not to share. Now a year and a half later, the track is being released everywhere as a single. In typical Bochoff style, the song is catchy, low-key hilarious and practically demands a sing-along. It’s also a subtle reminder to appreciate the Mike Bochoffs in your life, lest they all head out West. Continue reading Single: Mike Bochoff Explains the Irony and Struggle of ‘Hali-Famous’
Monthly Roundup: July 2018
Folks, we are tired, and sweaty, and lightly covered in glitter. Festival season is relentless. There are no days off, and no nights off either. Weekends are a gruelling seven-day grind, full of the unnatural sounds of whooping crowds and sirens. You’d imagine the final days of the apocalypse were upon us if not for all the dayglo decor. But that is the sort of sacrifice we endure for you, dear readers. In the words of the great Ricky Valentine, “We do it for the people.” Continue reading Monthly Roundup: July 2018
