The NFB consistently fosters and showcases film projects from all across the country, and is no stranger to experimental cinema. One of their latest pieces to be released sounds like a bit of a strange melange on paper- Far Away From Far Away, a story centred around Canadian entrepreneur Zita Cobb’s life on Fogo Island, Newfoundland in the ’60s and ’70s, and designed as an interactive mobile experience. But something about this collision of worlds makes for a truly captivating piece. Continue reading NFB Project ‘Far Away From Far Away’ Brings Fogo Island a Little Closer

Premiere – Kelly McMichael Says to Ditch the Crappy Jobs and Boyfriends on ‘Out the Window’
It’s a scenario as old as time; you’re sitting in the driver’s seat of an idling car in the driveway of an all-too-familiar home. The clock reads a little after 8:30, and the coffee is just hitting you as the car begins to warm up. You think to yourself, “What if I just drove away? The music of Halifax-based singer and songwriter Jont has always typically come with a nurturing aspect to it. His latest album, Thank You for the Medicine, spells it out for us right in the title. These songs are designed to uplift and heal, either through a positive message or simply advocating for both the long and short-term benefits of dancing away your worries.
Jont’s latest video, “Step Into the Fear,” featuring dancer-choreographer Natalie Morin, is a rally cry to “step into your power.” Amidst the playfulness of Morin’s dancing, however, there’s a sense of sorrow giving the song a greater gravitas.
