At the end of June, east coast powerhouse Slowcoaster quietly dropped a new album. This was not because of any lack of fanfare, but rather because of their unorthodox method of delivery. Choosing to shun industry conventions and trends, the band veered away from vinyl and cassettes to bring us their latest work on the tried and true medium of… canvas. In an effort to change the course of musical mass consumption and consumerism, Track 1 has been released on a series of hand-painted canvases, complete with download code.

Lost & Found: The Names And Faces — the Short-lived Fredericton Supergroup
New Brunswick’s music scene is like a Large Hadron Collider. There’s an ongoing process of repeatedly smashing things together to see what works until something flies off. One such experiment was The Names And Faces, which featured some of Fredericton’s more promising musicians. In 2011 they produced West Of Here, their only album, and a single video that replaced the band with stop-motion pipe-cleaner stand-ins. Quebec’s Outside I’m A Giant Pens Ode To Tay Creek Folk Festival
New Brunswick is too often mistaken as the “drive-through province,” and to be fair, the view from the highway is too often an unwavering and nap-inducing ribbon of pines and moose fencing. But for those willing the venture beyond the Trans-Canada there’s a whole province full of reasons to linger. With music festivals cropping up in every den and hollow, there are more reasons than ever to discover the beautiful nooks and crannies of the province, as Outside I’m A Giant from Hull, Quebec discovered while performing at Tay Creek Folk Festival last summer.
