Dave Sampson Expresses Some Thoughts About Arriving at His Thirtieth Birthday on ‘All My Friends’

There comes a point in the lives of many people when they look up from their game of Edward Fortyhands and realize that they’re the oldest person sitting at the beer pong table. Their friends have long ago lost interest, grown-up and moved on to a fabulous lifestyle of lawn maintenance and RRSP contributions.

While musicians get a little leeway in the growing-up department, often professionally so, as Dave Sampson approached his thirtieth birthday he began to notice that, unlike his friends, he was without a designer dog of his own. Andre Pettipas and The Giants Bring in Blind Melon’s Christopher Thorn for ‘Homesick’

Having spent a good bit of his life working from the road, both as a sheet metal worker and as a high-kickin’ rock-n-roller’, Andre Pettipas is no stranger to homesickness. As much as musicians love touring, on some level, the desire to run screaming for your most familiar four walls remains a near-universal affliction.

Following their previously released “Sympathy Card” and the titular “No Fools No Fun,” “Homesick” is the final single to be released from Andre Pettipas and The Giant’s upcoming album and features the legendary Christopher Thorn of Blind Melon on the power-pop ballad. The Town Heroes Go All John Hughes for ‘Fuse’

If John Hughes had been born in Cape Breton, and instead of a filmmaker he had turned to music, he would probably wish that his best efforts to produce a coming-of-age song could sound a lot like “Fuse,” the latest single from The Town Heroes. It’s got small-town magic, the heady bloom of young love in the late ’90s, and all the excitement that a brain full of hormones can handle. Morgan Zwicker Jazz Project’s ‘Phase Shift’ is a Barometer for Halifax’s Jazz Scene

Jazz and shawarma have a lot in common. To get good shwarma it is often advised that one travel to a larger centre than what the east coast offers where the nuances of the garlic sauce and perfectly pickled beats get put in equilibrium with shaved meats that are spiced to perfection.

With Halifax growing at seemingly alarming rates post-pandemic, we might be able to judge its growth into a big city based on the quality of its shawarma and its jazz. Morgan Zwicker Jazz Project’s new album Phase Shift is one of the many recent east coast jazz albums to impress me. Thomas Stajcer Has Big Plans and Bad Ideas for His New Single ‘Heading to the Bar to Do Bad Again’

Not all ideas are good ideas. Much like the rest of us, Thomas Stajcer has had a solid year and a half to allow some of those not-so-good ideas to percolate, fester and multiply. Now, after so many months indoors, he’s like a cuddly little Mogwai, racing off to your local watering hole and nothing good is going to come of it. His latest single, “Heading to the Bar to Do Bad Again,” is about as self-explanatory as you can expect from a title like that.

Shenanigans are inevitable. Continue reading Thomas Stajcer Has Big Plans and Bad Ideas for His New Single ‘Heading to the Bar to Do Bad Again’
