Zachary Greer Gives New Brunswick’s Last Fatal Duel a Dramatic Film Score, Releases First Single ‘Final Breath’

New Brunswick-based composer Zachary Greer set out with a goal of working on as many film and television projects as possible. However, as he points out, the opportunities available from New Brunswick’s film industry are often few and far between. The obvious solution for was Greer was to take matters into his own hands to craft a soundtrack for a film that doesn’t even exist. “Final Breath” is the first single from his album about a historic New Brunswick event, that features chamber pop duo Pallmer. Kiwi Jr. Explore a Line-less and Empty Toronto on ‘Waiting in Line’

Apparently, during times of great distress, people will actively and instinctively embrace whatever shreds of nostalgia can be scraped together off the floor of our existence and mushed back between our collective ears in a desperate attempt to regain the familiar comforts of a happier, safer era. So when Kiwi Jr. go all Kodakchome— complete with a Super 8mm frame effect—on their new video for “Waiting in Line,” we are more than ready to gobble it, despite having little no idea what they’re on about. POSTDATA Casts Existential Dread in a Cheery Light on ‘Nobody Knows’

“I’m not good when the party’s packed/I’m not good when there’s nobody left.”

It’s amusing to imagine POSTDATA’s Paul Murphy (also of the Juno Award-winning band Wintersleep) standing in some ever-so-slightly quieter corner of a party, humming away to himself and pulling together the lyrics to “Nobody Knows.” It’s the sort of thing I would do — a little mental exercise to stave off the existential dread. Murphy, however, is not contented with the simple social anxieties of a single party. Instead, we’re treated to a whole laundry list of potentially disastrous situations. Jah’Mila Turns Israel Vibration Classic on its Head for ‘Roots Girl’

Jah’Mila’s latest release is a celebration of Jamaican culture, but from a perspective that we might not be used to seeing. Paying homage to Israel Vibration’s 1995 song “Rude Boy Shufflin’,” Jah’Mila turns the song on its head, switching out the male-centric imagery for the strong matriarchal energies of a “Roots Girl” as a commentary on the male-dominated genre. Justin Fancy Updates a Carter Family Hit from 1928 – ‘The Wildwood Flower feat. Ron Kelly’

The latest single from Justin Fancy shows off just a couple more hats he’s kept in his collection. The Newfoundland-based musician is, perhaps, best known for his stint in the pop world of Canadian Idol, while his career as an independent artist has taken a sharp turn towards country music. At one point, like many Newfoundland performers, Fancy’s fancy had turned to the traditional. He’s revisited the genre with the very traditional “The Wildwood Flower” along with an old friend and bandmate.
