Keith Hallett Comes to Big Turnip for a Special Release of ‘World War 3/One Kind Favour’

Keith Hallett has long been headed down the path of becoming a folk legend. A regular performer, his music has only irregularly been committed to a physical medium. While Hallett’s Fredericton-based doom punk band, Janowskii, was featured on The Capital Project’s double-vinyl release, and his self-titled solo album went out on CD/cassette back in 2015, he’s making a vinyl debut as a solo artist on the equally curious folk label, Big Turnip  Records with a 7″ single. Pallmer Emphasize a Multi-Layered Message in New Video for Love Song ‘Bricks’

Fredericton-base chamber pop duo Pallmer do not beat around the bush on their latest single. At just seven lines long, “Bricks” is an honest and simple love song that can barely be troubled with more than the scantest metaphor about constructing enduring some based on growth and shared experience, but for the full emotional experience they’ve wrung it out for a solid three minutes. No, It’s Fine. Break Down ‘(It’s Nice to Pretend) We Wrote These Songs’ Cover-by-Cover

Halifax’s self-described sadsacks No, It’s Fine. might be between EPs at the moment, but that doesn’t mean they’re ignoring you. Their new album, (It’s Nice To Pretend) We Wrote These Songs, is a loose series of ten songs written by strangers for strangers which your ears will benefit from all the same, thanks to the band’s painstaking double heart-wrought process.

Despite the estranged sources of this material, this collection of covers has been lovingly chosen with all the intimacy of a mixtape. And so, we’ve asked No, It’s Fine.’s Cailen Pygott to spell out his choices for us.

Joce Reyome Breathes Fresh Life Into the Blues With ‘Cross My Heart’

Joce Reyome’s debut single comes across as a real stunner. “Cross My Heart” makes heavy nods to classic R&B and Blues, with tales of heartbreak and woe, drinking and gambling t’boot, but following in the more modern footsteps of Alabama Shakes, Reyome has breathed some excitingly fresh life into these genres. Considering Joce’s musical background, that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Continue reading Joce Reyome Breathes Fresh Life Into the Blues With ‘Cross My Heart’

Moira & Claire Pen an Ode to High School Crushes With ‘You Look Good in Yellow’

The latest single from Moira & Claire captures the microcosm of runaway thoughts and insecurities forged in the raging fires of the teenage brain. “You Look Good in Yellow” is a nice reminder that you once cared how people looked, or how you look, or what you thought of each other and it was both exciting and terrifying.
