Single: ‘Dans ma peau’ is Émilie Landry’s Love Letter to Herself

“Dans ma peau” by Acadian singer-songwriter Émilie Landry of Campbellton, New Brunswick, is fighting back against the rampant effects of negative self-image. Using the track as a love letter to her body, Landry expresses how she feels good, and she hopes it will help listeners feel good, too.

Singing lyrics about how she feels good in her jeans and liking what she sees in the mirror, Landry exudes self-confidence in “Dans ma peau.” With a catchy beat, this country tune is an anthem for body positivity — something for people to sing along to and feel good about themselves while doing it. It will stay stuck in your head for hours, sneaking little pockets of positivity into your day.

“‘Dans ma peau’ (In My Skin) is a song that I wrote as kind of a positive mantra,” says Landry. “Like anyone, I often feel insecure and don’t always feel great in my skin. I tried to capture what it feels like when I do, hoping that when I would sing it, it would help me feel that way more often. I hope it can help others feel that way when they hear it as well.”

The track is the first single off Landry’s upcoming album, Arroser les fleurs, but won’t be the only track on the record to encourage self-confidence and personal growth.

“The themes of the album actually revolve around the album title: Arroser les fleurs (Watering the Flowers). It’s a metaphor for taking care of yourself, healing, self-esteem, self-confidence and personal growth. Very early on in my writing, I knew I wanted even the saddest song to still have an element of hope. I also knew that even the lighter and more upbeat tracks would be very emotionally charged.”

“Dans ma peau” is also leading the way for Landry’s newfound country sound. After her previous pop-folk EP Être social, her style has veered decidedly westward for Arroser les fleurs. However, Landry says that listeners can still expect “a couple of neat [stylistic] surprises on other tracks of the album.”

Having grown up listening to country artists such as Dolly Parton, the Dixie chicks, Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift, Landry says writing country songs is like getting back to her roots after years of trying her hand at playing many other genres.

“I feel like an important step to learning to love yourself is simply accepting who you are wholeheartedly and owning it. Returning to my hometown and to country music was a huge part of that journey for me.”

Arroser les fleurs will be released on May 8th.
