Single: Lawrence Maxwell Points Out We Should Have Listened to the ‘Whiskey Songs’ of Old Country

You can’t solve everything with drinking. Particularly if the problem you need to solve is the drinking. There’s enough country music out there to attest to that, and “Whiskey Songs,” the latest single from Prince Edward Island’s Lawrence Maxwell, offers the final word on that.

Lawrence Maxwell has been giving himself a practical education in classic country songs during his day job: detailing cars.

“That gives me a lot of time to listen to music,” says Maxwell. “I was listening to a lot of old country songs one day and naturally there was the theme of ‘whiskey.’ I thought, ‘man, you think we would learned from all these whiskey songs by now.’

Naturally, he came to the same conclusion that many country artists have come to before him: if you’ve got troubles, the answer isn’t at the bottom of a bottle.

“I wrote the chorus in my head at work then went home and wrote the rest. The theme turned to using alcohol after a breakup. I thought about a relationship that ended and then tried to feel what it was like from her perspective. I knew that it called for a female vocalist to share that side of it, so I reached out to Bridgette Blanchard.”

Together, the pair duet through their woes. And, as Maxwell says, “we should have listened to the whiskey songs.”

The song will be featured on Lawrence Maxwell’s upcoming album, Almost Natural which is set for release in June, 2020.
