Music Video: PINEO & LOEB Partner With Glass Tiger and Matt Mays to Release ‘This Is Your Life’

PINEO & LOEB have created a perfect storm of Canadiana. Their latest release ties together three generations of Canadian music legends, as they partner with 80s Pop icons, Grammy-nominees and 4x JUNO winners Glass Tiger, along with JUNO winner and fellow-Nova Scotian indie-rocker Matt Mays, to release “This Is Your Life”.

PINEO & LOEB are no strangers to a good mash. The multiple ECMA-winners’ most recent album, ELEVATIONreceived critical acclaim and would have run roughshod over The East’s Best of 2019 list if we hadn’t given them their own category. The album was filled with pop hits, re-imagined, re-worked, performed by some of our favourite artist, and the results were entirely magical.

So when Glass Tiger’s frontman and founding member Alan Frew wanted to get a fresh take on their song “This is Your Life” from their 2019 album, the minimalistically titled 33, he was quickly directed to PINEO & LOEB via CBC New Brunswick host Jeff Liberty.

“We originally were asked to do just a remix,” said Mitchell Pineo, “but we met with Glass Tiger and pitched them the idea that we would like to do this as a new thing, not just as a derivative of their song. We wanted to make it into this new project and get other musicians involved. They thought it was a great idea, so we got some other instrumentalists, and we brought in Matt Mays.”

Pineo notes that adding Mays to the mix doubles as bit of Canadiana trivia, with a nod to Bryan Adams similarly performing background vocals on Glass Tiger’s first big hit, “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone).”

“’This is Your Life’ is a great song. It’s very interesting and introspective. It’s them looking back but also looking forward at the same time, which is inspiring. Structurally, it’s built with a pop song progression that is reminiscent of their big hits from the 1980s, especially ‘Someday.’ I think it sounds just as good as those older songs.”

“We really can’t thank them enough. We are used to working with lots of different people, but we were just blown away at how receptive they were. They trusted us and let us take this project in the direction we thought it should go,” said Loeb.
