Single: Sound Drown Sign with She Said Feck! – Release ‘Radio Song’

Saint John’s Sound Drown has just signed with Fredericton-based label She Said Feck! and it seems rather suiting that they  should mark the occasion by releasing “Radio Song,” a pop rock harbinger of radio friendly fortunes.

“The writing process for the song started shortly after we released our debut EP “Dino Droppings”, but ended up getting re-written half a dozen times before we finally finished it on our trip to Nashville last year,” says Sound Drown’s guitarist and backing vocalist Justin Goss.

“I wish we could’ve recorded it in Nashville,” laughs Goss.

“When Brandon [Wiseman, lead vocalist/bassist] brought us the first draft of lyrics for the song, we decided that if we were going to have a song titled ‘Radio Song’ we had to make it as radio worthy as we could, hence why it’s a very pop-rock song.”

Conversely, “Radio Song” is about making a connection with an audience who are increasingly dependant on a digital market; a market that offers direct engagement with that audience but can often lack curation.

“It’s about the relationship between fan and artist, where, right now, new music is coming out quicker than it ever has. So, as an artist, you want to know how you can catch the listener, and make them want to come back.”

Despite their take on the challenges faced by contemporary musicians faces “Radio Song” see Sound Drown joining the ranks of what appears to be an east coast wave of pop rock bands revelling in early 2000’s nostalgia.

Produced by Adam Dincorn of Undertone in Saint John, “Radio Song” is the first single off the band’s upcoming, yet-to-be-named first full length album.

The band say they’ll be hitting the road this Summer, and will be announcing dates in the coming weeks with shows across the Maritimes, Ontario and Quebec sometime in July.
