If you haven’t already found your way into the holiday spirits, The Galpines are ready to make it easy for you. They band have created a little bit of merriment with a new festive video, and in traditional Galpines style they’ve done a twisted take on a Christmas classic with “Passed out in a Manger.”
Alright, we admit we may have put them up to this. After being subjected to the same old holiday tracks or some modern wintery lullabies, we suggested a while back that The Galpines apply their particular skill set on a holiday album.
“I made up a bunch of foolish titles, one of which was ‘Passed Out In a Manger.’ Abbey ran with it and wrote up some charming lyrics. Last night we drank wine and made a video, complete with jing-tinglers. It’s not the holidays until The Galpines get drunk about it,” says Galpine Heather Narduzzi.
The proposed album, potentially titled Hark! The Drunken Angels Sing: A Galpines Holiday Album, is about what you’d expect from the lewd ladies, and could feature such crass carols as:
“Grandma Got Picked Up On A DUI”
“I Saw Mommy Banging Santa Claus”
“‘Angels We Have Heard Get High”
“What Child Is This? (Seriously, Who Owns This Stupid Kid)”
“Passed Out In A Manger”
“The most challenging part was striking that delicate balance between ‘holiday cheer’ and ‘obnoxiously drunk,'” expertly explains Narduzzi. “It’s that sweet window between three and eight eggnogs where you’re really funny but also good at bowling.”
While a full album may come together eventually we’ll have to make it through the holidays with just this one track. The band is also taking a slight back from touring while Galpine Abbey Warren manages her fresh offspring and the band focus on getting recent band addition “Kendra Galepine” on board and up to speed. They do hint, however, that they’re working on new material for a tour in the Spring.
