Jamie Comeau and The Crooked Teeth

Music Video: Jamie Comeau & The Crooked Teeth Capture Live Performance Of ‘Breathe For You’

One of the biggest challenges facing any band is the process of translating into a recording all of that blessedly frantic noise and energy that’s generated on stage, thrown into a live audience and spat back at you. It’s lightning in a bottle. There’s just no capturing what is created in that moment. Jamie Comeau & The Crooked Teeth might have come close. Their live video for ‘Breathe For You’, recorded at Saint John’s Kent Theatre gives a great sense of why they’re one of the most exciting bands coming out of Saint John.

To give you a sense of just how exciting this band is, this track (glorious as it is) didn’t actually make the cut for their upcoming debut album. Not about to let a good thing go to waste, especially when it’s sounding better all the time, the band have been keeping it as part of their live repertoire.

It actually began to grow more and more on us lately. When a show opportunity that was being multi-track recorded presented itself to us, we thought we would bring in some of our talented film friends to help record a few tunes for us, “Breathe For You” being one of them,” says Crooked Teeth guitarist Nick LeBlanc.

“The track is about choosing to breathe for that special person in your life instead of taking your own breath,” explains Jamie Comeau, the band’s frontman.

“It’s about wondering what happens after death. It’s about feelings of discontentment and uncertainty and defeating those feelings for the people you love. It’s from the perspective of a man who succumbed to those feelings instead of living for the one he loves, and it’s about how I chose the alternative.”

And while Comeau’s explanation might not seem all that cheery it comes of sounding a lot more fun in the song. At least we’re looking forward to their album.
